GREEN ROUTE
WALK 3
RUE DU PRESBYTERE* ou RUE PUANTE*
The name of the street comes from the tanneries which operated in the town from the Middles Ages to the beginning of the 19th century. On the banks of the river which bordered this district the
tanners would prepare the hides for the 4 tanneries of the town. These foul and unhealthy places were called « pelams » in the local language.
• presbytère= vicarage/parsonage
• puante= stinking/ foul
